New Delhi, January 23, 2025: A comprehensive data analysis of India’s key performance indicators (KPIs) over the past decade reveals a remarkable transformation under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The findings highlight significant advancements in economic growth, social development, infrastructure development, digital and technological progress, and welfare programs.
According to the Indian Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, India’s global rank in GDP (nominal) has surged from 10th in 2014 to 5th in 2022, as per the International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates. The country has also seen a substantial rise in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows, with cumulative FDI inflows increasing from $305 billion between 2004-2014 to $667 billion between 2014-2024, as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data.
The Modi-era has also witnessed significant infrastructure development, with capital expenditure as a percentage of GDP increasing from 1.7% in FY14 to 3.2% in FY24. The total installed power capacity has doubled, with renewable energy witnessing a remarkable rise from 76.38 GW to 201.5 GW in the same period. Metro rail coverage has expanded from 248 km to 990 km across 23 cities, while national highway construction length has increased from 25,700 km to 54,900 km.
The data analysis also highlights notable advancements in digital and technological progress, with mobile data tariffs plummeting from ₹269/GB in 2014 to ₹9.08/GB in 2024. Median broadband speed has improved from 1.30 Mbps to 95.67 Mbps, while the number of recognized start-ups has grown from 350 in 2014 to 1,40,000 in June 2024.
In terms of social development, the Modi-era has seen significant improvements in healthcare, education, and clean energy. Institutional births have risen from 78.9% in 2015-16 to 88.6% in 2019-21, while infant mortality rates have declined from 39 in 2014 to 28 in 2020. The number of medical colleges has increased from 387 in 2014 to 780 in 2024.
The analysis also highlights notable achievements in rural development, such as 100% rural electrification by 2023 and an increase in tap water connections in rural areas from 3.2 crore in 2019 to 15.3 crore in 2024.
Furthermore, the direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme has benefited over 170 crore citizens, with funds disbursed increasing from ₹7,367 crore to ₹6,91,359.9 crore. The urban waste management has seen a marked improvement, with 78.5% of total waste generated processed in 2024, up from 18% in 2014.
The data analysis is a comprehensive snapshot of India’s progress over the past decade and will provide valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to shape India’s growth narrative for the coming years.
