RBI Appoints Indranil Bhattacharyya as Executive Director

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed *m Indranil Bhattacharyya as an Executive Director (ED), effective March 19, 2025. Prior to this elevation, he served as an Adviser in the Monetary Policy Department of the central bank.

With nearly three decades of experience, Bhattacharyya has worked extensively in the areas of monetary policy, fiscal policy, banking, and international economic relations across key departments, including the Monetary Policy Department, the Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR), and the International Department.

He also served as an Economic Expert at the Qatar Central Bank from 2009 to 2014. In his new role as ED, Bhattacharyya will be responsible for overseeing the Department of Economic and Policy Research, which plays a crucial role in shaping the RBI’s policy framework.

An alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, Bhattacharyya holds a postgraduate degree in Economics. His research interests include monetary theory and policy, financial markets, market microstructure, and fiscal policy.

His appointment comes at a critical time as the RBI navigates evolving monetary policy challenges and economic uncertainties, reinforcing its research and policy-making capabilities.
